RFI → RBO. A skater who rotates the other way traces LFI: the same element, generated from this one.

The one British Ice Skating asks for at Skills 3: forwards on an inside edge, one and a half rotations, out backwards on an outside one. It is the first twizzle in the syllabus and the first element where continuous rotation is the thing actually being tested.

Judge it at the exit. A back outside edge, held and checked, means the rotation finished where it was meant to; a back inside edge or a flat means it did not, and nothing done afterwards recovers that. Better still, judge it from the ice: a curl and then a clean edge is a twizzle, and a cusp anywhere in it is a three turn wearing the name.

Derived

RFI is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, forwards, inside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.

RFI 1½ twizzle to RBO: 1½ rotations on one foot, travelling, leaving one curl in the tracing and no cusp anywhere. The lobe continues, and the half rotation turns the skater to face the other way, which is why the edge letter changes without the blade ever changing which way it curves.

A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from LFI. Same element, mirrored.
