RFO → LFI. A skater who rotates the other way traces LFO: the same element, generated from this one.

The free foot crosses in front of the skating foot and goes down on the inside edge of the other foot, on the same circle. It is how a skater builds speed on a curve, and it is the first thing after plain edges that most people learn.

The push is the whole point and the part most often thrown away. Both feet push: the outside foot as it crosses, and then the inside foot as it comes out from under. A crossover done as a step over, with no push from either foot, looks tidy and produces nothing.

Derived

RFO is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, forwards, outside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.

RFO crossover to LFI: the skater steps onto the other foot, the direction of travel does not change, and the lobe continues.

A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from LFO. Same element, mirrored.
