Section 3

The longest section: choctaw into mohawk, a rocker, a counter into a mohawk, an open choctaw, and a rocker-counter into a double twizzle to finish.

BIS Skills 8In the syllabus both before and after 01/10/2026

Not checked yet. The requirements on this page are a first draft by a non-expert, and no coach has seen them yet. Read them as a starting point and check them with a coach. Corrections are very welcome.

Twice the length of the other two and built almost entirely out of changes of foot. A closed choctaw into an open mohawk, a rocker, a closed mohawk, a counter into another mohawk, a change of edge, an open choctaw: six ways of arriving on the other foot, one after another, with crossovers holding it together.

Read as a list that is daunting, and read as skating it is what the whole qualification has been for. Every one of those has been tested on its own between Skills 4 and Skills 7, so nothing here is being introduced. What is being asked is whether they can be strung together at performance speed with a piece of music running underneath, which is a different question from whether the skater has them.

It ends on the hardest cluster in the syllabus (a rocker into a counter into a double twizzle), and the skater picks which side to take it on. That choice is the last thing the National Skills structure asks, and it is a fair one to end on: after eight tests of both sides equally, the programme lets the skater finish on the side they trust.

Elements

This page lists which elements the section calls for and what it is working on. It does not reproduce British Ice Skating's sequence, pattern or wording. For the section as published, go to their own document.
