RFO → RFI. A skater who rotates the other way traces LFO: the same element, generated from this one.

The blade rolls from the outside edge to the inside edge without turning, and because one of the three things that decide a lobe has changed, the curve reverses under you. Forwards throughout: you never stop facing the way you are going.

There is nothing to see at the moment it happens, which is the difficulty. A three turn leaves a cusp and a mohawk leaves a gap; a change of edge leaves a smooth line that either does or does not have a kink in it, and the kink is the fault. The roll should take a metre of ice.

Derived

RFO is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, forwards, outside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.

RFO change of edge to RFI: the blade rolls from one edge to the other without pivoting, the direction of travel does not change, and the lobe reverses.

A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from LFO. Same element, mirrored.
