A bracket from a backward entry into a cross roll. It appears once in the syllabus, in the first section of Skills 8, and it is doing something specific: turning a difficult one-foot turn into travel across the ice.
Watch the free side through the bracket. A bracket rotates against its curve, so the free hip is already working against the direction the cross roll needs. The transfer has to happen anyway, on time, with the shoulders still holding the check. That is the reason this sits where it does in the test.
Derived
RBI is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, backwards, inside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.
RBI, bracket to RFO, then cross roll to LFO. 2 turns on two feet, and the skater finishes on LFO.
Nothing above is stored on this page. The cluster records its entry edge and the order of its turns; every edge in between is chained out of the same rule that draws a single turn.
A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from LBI. Same element, mirrored.
Build on
- Right backward inside bracketRBI to RFO: half a turn against the circle, changing edge and staying on the same lobe.
- Right forward outside cross rollRFO to LFO: a step onto the other foot, still travelling forwards, and the lobe reverses.
