RBOtakes off
RBOlands
The two edges, drawn. What happens between them is not: a tracing is the record of a blade on the ice, and for most of a jump the blade is not on it. These two are the same curve because they are the same edge: it leaves and returns to RBO. Each of these curves is drawn by more than one jump. What separates this one from the loop and the Euler is the pick, and no curve can show either.

Entrance Forward inside three turn

shoulder to hip —on the —
RFI three turn · RBO held · RBO takeoff, off the left toe pick · one rotation · RBO landing. Negative twist means the shoulders are held back against the hips, which stores rotation before a takeoff and checks it on a landing.

Backwards on a back outside edge, the free toe pick placed behind, and the vault carries you through one rotation to land on the edge you left. Usually the first toe jump a skater lands, and often the first double as well.

Learn the back outside edges first, then the back outside pivot and the forward inside three turn, which is the usual way in. Out of the turn, hold the edge for a moment with the free leg extended before the pick goes down. Skip the hold and the jump spins off the turn.

The pick goes in with the leg nearly straight and as far back as it reaches, the weight still over the skating leg. It is a jab: it sets the height and comes straight out again. Press on it and the rotation stalls before the jump leaves the ice.

Derived

RBO is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, backwards, outside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.

Takes off RBO and lands RBO, the same edge every jump in this guide but the Euler lands on, so the takeoff is what tells them apart. The toe pick provides the vault.

Shares its takeoff edge with the loop and the Euler: the pair that get mistaken for each other.

The double toe loop is this jump with one more turn in the air: the same takeoff and the same landing.

Lands on RBO, where the toe loop and the loop take off, so it can start a combination: toe loop + toe loop or toe loop + loop.

Takes off from RBO, the edge every other jump here lands on, so it can follow any of them in a jump combination.

A skater who rotates clockwise takes off LBO and lands LBO: the same jump, mirrored.
