A bracket into a counter from a backward edge. Entering blind, rotating against the curve twice, and changing circle at the second turn.
The two turns look similar on the ice and feel quite different: the bracket has a cusp pointing out of the circle and leaves you on the same lobe, the counter has the same rotation but takes the lobe away. Doing them back to back is the clearest way to learn which is which.
Derived
RBI is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, backwards, inside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.
RBI, bracket to RFO, then counter to RBO. 2 turns on one foot, and the skater finishes on RBO.
Nothing above is stored on this page. The cluster records its entry edge and the order of its turns; every edge in between is chained out of the same rule that draws a single turn.
A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from LBI. Same element, mirrored.
Build on
- Right backward inside bracketRBI to RFO: half a turn against the circle, changing edge and staying on the same lobe.
- Right forward outside counterRFO to RBO: half a turn against the circle, holding the edge and leaving on a new one.
