Teapot
A low glide on one foot with the free leg reaching forward, a balance exercise disguised as a trick.

You sink over the skating knee until you are close to the ice, the free leg reaching forward with the blade clear of it. The edge is shallow and stays shallow: there is very little you can do about it once you are down there, which is most of what the position teaches.
The difficulty is dropping under control. The weight has to stay over the middle of the blade the whole way, because a heel that catches sits you down and a toe that catches does worse. Coming back up is the harder half, and the half most people skip.
Names vary from rink to rink (teapot, sit glide, shoot the duck), and the deepest one-footed version tends to attract the last of those.
Derived
LFI is three letters (foot, direction, edge): left foot, forwards, inside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.
LFI traces a clockwise lobe seen from above the ice. Change any one of the three letters and it curves the other way; change two and it curves the same way again.
A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from RFI. Same element, mirrored.
Build on
- Left forward inside edgeLFI: the left foot travelling forwards on an inside edge, tracing a clockwise lobe.
- DipThe teapot holds a low knee bend on one foot with the free leg forward. The dip is a deep bend on two.
Leads to
One element in the guide is built on this one.
- Sit spinA spin held with the skating thigh at least parallel to the ice and the free leg forward.
