Salchow
LBI takeoff, off the edge, 1 rotation to RBO.

From a back inside edge, no pick, the free leg swinging through to carry you round. The edge does the work, which is why a Salchow rewards patience on the entry far more than effort in the air.
It is usually entered from a forward outside three turn, so a poor three turn is the most common reason a Salchow fails: the jump was fine and the thing before it was not. Practise the entry as its own element before blaming the takeoff.
What it rests on is the forward outside three turn and the back inside edge it leaves you on. Both exist as elements here, and both are worth more attention than the jump when a Salchow is not going round.
Derived
LBI is three letters (foot, direction, edge): left foot, backwards, inside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.
Takes off LBI and lands RBO, the same edge every jump in this guide but the Euler lands on, so the takeoff is what tells them apart. The spring comes from the edge, with no pick.
Shares its takeoff edge with the flip: the pair that get mistaken for each other.
The double Salchow is this jump with one more turn in the air: the same takeoff and the same landing.
Lands on RBO, where the toe loop and the loop take off, so it can start a combination: Salchow + toe loop or Salchow + loop.
Takes off from LBI, where the Euler lands, so it can come third in a combination with an Euler in the middle.
A skater who rotates clockwise takes off RBI and lands LBO: the same jump, mirrored.
Off the ice
- Holding the landingThe one position the jumps land in, held for longer than a landing lasts.
- Jumping and turning off the floorFloor jumps: going up before going round, pulling in, and opening out to land.
