outside edge: the paler line
RBO → LBO. A skater who rotates the other way traces LBO: the same element, generated from this one.

Travelling backwards, with the foot going down behind the skating one on the outer edge side and the weight crossing onto it. This is the version the British syllabus asks for, once, at the top of Skills 8.

The fault is a hop. There is no instant in which both feet are square, so a skater who cannot get the free hip round in time lifts the foot clear, and a gap opens in the tracing where a step belongs. Depth in the skating knee is what buys that instant, and it has to be there before the crossing starts. It cannot be found during it.

Moving into the space the crossing foot needs is what makes this the harder direction. The blindness is not the cause.

Derived

RBO is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, backwards, outside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.

RBO crossed step behind to LBO: the skater steps onto the other foot, the direction of travel does not change, and the lobe reverses.

A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from LBO. Same element, mirrored.
