outside edge: the paler line
LFO → LBO. A skater who rotates the other way traces RFO: the same element, generated from this one.

Forwards on the outside edge, rotating away from the circle, out backwards still on the outside edge and onto a new lobe. Both of the difficult things at once: the rotation fights the curve, and the lobe reverses underneath you.

Counters are usually the last of the four to arrive, and the reason is checking. The body has to be wound against the edge, released just enough to get round, and stopped dead on a curve that is now going the other way. Any looseness anywhere shows up immediately in the tracing.

Derived

LFO is three letters (foot, direction, edge): left foot, forwards, outside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.

LFO counter to LBO: the edge holds, the skater rotates against it, and the lobe reverses.

A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from RFO. Same element, mirrored.
