One sequence on a 60 x 30 metre rink, drawn upright as the rulebooks draw it, starting at the dot and travelling anticlockwise. The two partners skate side by side on one track; the switch shows where each one's steps fall and on which edge. Rinks vary, and on a smaller one the pattern shrinks to fit. Measured from the diagram in U.S. Figure Skating 2026-27 Rulebook, page Dance-98, the lead's diagram, and the follow's from page Dance-99, the follow's diagram.

The steps are in the rulebook's own notation: foot, direction and edge, with Pr for a progressive, Ch for a chassé, SwR for a swing roll, XB and XF for a cross step behind or in front, 3 for a three turn, CSt and SSt for C and S steps, Op for open and Cl for closed. From the step chart in US Figure Skating's 2026-27 rulebook.

US Figure Skating wants the Ravensburger Waltz to have the lilt of a Viennese Waltz: a continuous rise and fall of the knees that accents counts one and four, and a stress on the 2+1 count of many steps. It opens with three six-beat steps where the partners take turns at a lifted “Ravensburger-type” inside three against a swing roll.

The follow partner turns under the lead partner’s arm, with a forward inside twizzle into a quick C step on Step 4 and a back outside twizzle on Step 30. The rulebook compares the follow partner’s swing rocker on Step 36 to the one in the Rocker Foxtrot. It closes with walk-around threes, the follow partner’s quick turn matching the music’s syncopation.

It is one of the Gold Star dances to choose from on the British Ice Skating tests. US Figure Skating tests it at International level.
