Combination spin
One spin passing through more than one basic position, each held for at least two revolutions.
Also called spin combination. Other names.

Two positions, one spin, and the rotation carried through the change. Dropping into a sit and rising into an upright is the pairing to learn first, and the order is not arbitrary: a sit holds the free leg stretched forward, well off the line you are turning about, and an upright stacks everything over the blade. So the change itself speeds you up.
What earns a position is holding it. Two revolutions each, or it does not count, and the revolutions you spend arriving somewhere count towards the length of the spin. They do not count towards the position you are arriving at. British Ice Skating asks four revolutions in total without a change of foot and six with one.
A camel makes a third, and scores higher for it. The animation here leaves it out, because this rig cannot honestly draw a free leg changing into or out of a camel.
Derived
LBI is three letters (foot, direction, edge): left foot, backwards, inside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.
LBI traces an anticlockwise lobe seen from above the ice. Change any one of the three letters and it curves the other way; change two and it curves the same way again.
A skater who rotates the other way does the same thing from RBI. Same element, mirrored.
Build on
- Camel spinA spin held with the free leg extended behind and the free knee above hip level.
- Sit spinA spin held with the skating thigh at least parallel to the ice and the free leg forward.
- Upright spinThree or more revolutions on one back inside edge with the skating leg straight.
