Euler
RBO takeoff, off the edge, 1 rotation to LBI, on the other foot.
Also called 1Eu or half loop. Other names.
Not checked yet. The mechanics on this page are a first draft by a non-expert, and no coach has seen them yet. Read them as a starting point and check them with a coach. Corrections are very welcome.
A loop that lands on the other foot. It leaves the back outside edge the way a loop does, turns once, and comes down on the back inside edge of what was the free foot.
That landing is the whole point of it. The back inside edge is where the Salchow and the flip take off, so an Euler in the middle of a combination lets a skater follow almost any jump with one of those two. In competition it counts only there, between two jumps, and only as a single.
It used to be called the half loop, and some coaches still call it that. Land it with the free leg held behind, the way any landing is held, and the next jump is already set up.
Derived
RBO is three letters (foot, direction, edge): right foot, backwards, outside edge. Every edge in the guide is written that way, so RBI is a right foot travelling backwards on an inside edge.
Takes off RBO and lands LBI. The spring comes from the edge, with no pick.
Shares its takeoff edge with the toe loop and the loop: the pair that get mistaken for each other.
Lands on LBI, where the Salchow and the flip take off. The ISU counts it only in a combination, between two jumps: for example Waltz jump + Euler + Salchow, Waltz jump + Euler + flip, Salchow + Euler + Salchow or Salchow + Euler + flip. All of them are in jump combinations.
A skater who rotates clockwise takes off LBO and lands RBI: the same jump, mirrored.
